The shocking crime came to light a month later when the in-laws surrendered, fearing the revelations from the post-mortem report.
Meena Kumari, leaves behind her husband, Mohan Babu, employed in Poland, along with their 5-year-old son and 2.5-year-old daughter. The perpetrators, in an attempt to conceal their crime, had initially convinced both the police and Meena Kumari's family that she had committed suicide.
Ongoing disputes within the family, fueled by alleged disrespect and financial disagreements with their son, Mohan Babu, led to heightened tensions. The breaking point occurred on October 7 when, following a heated argument, Jagga Rao struck Meena Kumari on the head with a stick. Despite regaining consciousness, the victim met a tragic end as the in-laws proceeded to strangle her.
To further cover their tracks, the in-laws took the help of a neighbor, Neelapu Hema Rao, who assisted in cleaning blood stains and changing the victim's attire. The meticulous attempt to erase evidence extended to deceiving Meena Kumari's parents, the villagers, and law enforcement.
The victim's mother raised suspicions about the alleged suicide, prompting her to file a complaint with Icchapuram Rural police. The revelation of the crime and subsequent confession by the in-laws occurred a month after the brutal murder, shedding light on the tragic tale of domestic violence and deception.
As legal proceedings commence, the in-laws, Annapoorna and Jagga Rao, now face charges of murder, staging a crime scene, and obstructing justice.
